As assistant scenic designer for Northern Michigan University Theatre's production of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" I designed the banner and handled the painting for the graphic signs, as well as other duties assigned by the designer.
The banner stretched across three work stations in the scene shop and still hung over the edges. Designing something that was specifically meant to be tacky was more of a challenge to me. I spent time coming up with a story while I was painting the banner. A character was developed who had created it for the PTO and it became a part of the fun of the design.
